New name for FREE Pontoon Boat Rides
Each year during the 4th of July weekend, Dennis Gallo obtains volunteers, from the Wonder Lake Yacht Club, to give free rides around the lake and manage the crowd waiting their turn to Ride. The boat skippers share the history of Wonder Lake during the tour. Tours start from the Wonder Lake Marina. No need to sign up, just show up. — Event Sponsored by the Wonder Lake Yacht Club
So, who is this Rayne person?
Lorraine “Rayne” Gerhardt passed away in November 2024. Rayne was Wonder Lake's oldest resident, at the age of 104. She was involved in many aspects of Wonder Lake life. She was celebrated in 2021 by friends, family and colleagues with a plaque in her honor along a walking path in the Stonewater Subdivision, because she was part of the planning and development.
Rayne was honored for her 30 years of service as an MPOA Director and 50 years as Secretary of her subdivision with a street renamed in her honor in White Oaks Bay. If you attended MPOA meetings, you would have met her and heard her speak. She was the committee chairperson when the Wonder Lake MPOA celebrated it's 50-year anniversary and she authored a book called “Golden Anniversary Then and Now 1965 to 2015”.
Rayne was a city clerk in Lombard for over 25 years. She was also a synchronized swimmer for 40 years and an alternate judge for the Olympics. She even helped start the award-winning Wonder Lake Ski Team. A boulder will be installed with a plaque at the base of the flagpole in front of the MPOA office to honor her service to the Wonder Lake community. (Date to be determined.)
